Books are age-old tools for individualized learning. Portable and inexpensive, they can go inside prisons and jails where opportunities for learning may be limited, visitors infrequent, and new ways of thinking rare. A book can be a friend, a teacher, an invitation to explore/an adventure.
Books Inside's purpose is to ensure that quality books are available inside prisons and jails providing opportunities for incarcerated individuals to broaden their skills and knowledge, and to connect with other people, worlds, and experiences through the magic of reading and learning. We are especially looking for opportunities to work with jails and prisons that have few or no books.
On the ‘outside’ old, dog-eared books may be worthless, but on the ‘inside’ they are priceless.
